When you hear someone’s cell phone go off it will usually have their own personally selected ringtone on it. There are hundreds of thousands of ringtones that are available to put on your cell phone and ringtones show no sign of declining in popularity. When they were first introduced onto the market some of the ringtones were very expensive, but people were still interested in buying them. Now however it is possible to get free ringtones sent directly to your cell phone.

If you have never heard of free ringtones you will be pleased to know that you can have cool sounding ringtones without having to pay a penny for them. So how do you go about getting them and putting them onto your cell phone?

One way to do this is to use software to transfer tracks that you like from your PC onto your cell phone. However in order to get free ringtones in this way you need to be quite PC savvy and understand how to do this. Thankfully there are plenty of sites online which will show you how to do this in just a few moments. Then once you have mastered it you can go right ahead and put as many free ringtones onto your cell phone as you like.

Another way to get free ringtones is to create them yourself using an online program. Once again once you have understood how to do this it is quite straightforward and many people find creating their own ringtones is really good fun. In fact the only limit to this method of getting free ringtones is your own imagination. So if you have a song in your head that you would like to customise as your own ringtone why not use this option yourself.

Some people like to share their ringtones with their friends. Again this is another very popular way of obtaining free ringtones directly to your cell phone. You can share these by sending the ringtone as a text message with an attachment or via Bluetooth to another cell phone. The only downside to this way of sharing ringtones is that older cell phones will not always accept large files which contain the free ringtones.

Quite a few of the many websites online which offer ringtones for sale will also offer customers the chance to get free ringtones with every purchase. So whilst the ringtones if you are getting will not be 100% free you will be benefiting from getting a ringtone with everyone that you pay for. Or you might be able to take advantage of special offers on websites which will allow you to download unlimited ringtones for a set fee.

Getting ringtones for free might sound like a complicated process, but once you are used to what you have to do to get them you will be converted. So to enjoy ringtones from all your favourite artists find out more about getting them for free and putting them straight onto your cell phone.

What’s the problem with most ringtones? Well, besides the fact that they cost a lot of money, and you get so comparatively little? Most purchased ringtones fail to capture the essence or meaning of the song that you choose to be your ringtone. You may not even be able to find a ringtone that highlights the portion of the song that you wish to play when certain people call you. Now, you have the ability to create your own ringtones for free. You can create custom ringtones that highlight any portion of any song on your playlist. You don’t even need a new phone to create your own ringtones. You can use a used cell phone, refurbished cell phone or an old phone that you wish to put back into use.

PhoneZoo: Making It All Possible

First, you need to sign up for PhoneZoo. It’s a very quick and easy process that involves following some simple directions. The most important part is to be sure that you enter your cell phone number correctly. If there is one mistake on the number, you may end up sending ringtones to someone else’s phone.

Add Music Files

PhoneZoo has a huge library of free ringtones that you can choose from, and it also gives you the option to create your own ringtones. To create your own ringtone for your used blackberry, simply upload the song you wish to use as a ringtone into the PhoneZoo audio editor. All music files smaller than 15MB will be accepted by the system (Most songs are less than 5 MB, so you should have no trouble). Once uploaded, all you have to do is edit your ringtone and deliver it to your phone.

Getting Your Ringtone

There are several ways that you can transfer your ringtone from the website to your phone. You download the ringtone directly to your phone using a wireless internet provider if you have internet service on your phone. If not, you can download using the Bluetooth network or a standard USB connection. If you have any trouble, see the “help” section on PhoneZoo.

Setting Up Your Custom Ringtone

Now, it’s time to set up or install your ringtone. Since the set up varies among phones and service providers, be sure to consult your instruction manual for specific instructions related to your model. Most phones have options that allow you to use the ringtone for all incoming calls or for individual contacts.

Share Your Free Ringtones

If you wish to share your unique ringtone with others, PhoneZoo makes it easy. Of course, sharing is a personal decision. If you wish to keep your ringtone all to yourself, you can skip this option.

Purchasing expensive ringtones used to be the only way to personalize refurbished Verizon cell phones, but those days are long gone. PhoneZoo has changed the game. Now, everyone has the ability and tools to create custom ringtones for free. For those that do not want to create their own ringtones, PhoneZoo also provides an extensive library of free ringtones that is sure to have something you like.

Have you ever heard someone’s cellphone ring with the sound of a popular song? It is more than likely that the person who owns that phone downloaded a ringtone. A ringtone is just a piece of music, or even a funny sound, that plays on a given cellphone whenever someone calls that cellphone.

On many cellphones, it is even possible to install different ringtones that ring when different people call. For example, you can configure a cellphone like this so that it plays a Nelly Furtado song when your friend Sarah calls, or a Nickelback song when your friend Zack calls.

Installing ringtones like this is a great way to have a bit of fun with your phone, and to express your individual tastes to the outside world. It also serves a practical purpose in that you know who is calling just from the sound of the ringtone. There are several different types of ringtones. Older phones generally play only monophonic MIDI ringtones, which consist of a very simple set of tones played by the cellphone speaker. Only one musical note can be played at a time. Obviously, this means that the sound quality and complexity of the music is very limited.

To provide better capabilities, the next generation of cellphones was created with the ability to play polyphonic MIDI ringtones. These still played a series of musical tones, but at least the phonce was able to play several such tones simultaneously in multiple musical channels. This allowed the ringtones to have much richer and more complex sound quality, where for example you can hear the individual sounds of keyboards, guitar and bass.

However, the MIDI aspect of the sound was still not that great. The most recent (current) generation of phones have overcome this limitation by allowing full MP3 ringtones or realtones. These ringtones are MP3 files that can play back a snippet of the song (or sound) in the same high level of detail one would expect from an MP3 music file.

There are several ways to get ringtones onto your phone. The first step is to discover what sort of ringtones your phone can play. The best way to do this is to read the User Guide that came with the phone, or contact your cellphone service provider and ask them. Then you can download ringtones individually from a variety of ringtone services, which are easy to find on the web.

However, you will have to pay anywhere from 99 cents to $2.99 per ringtone to download ringtones one at a time. A much better approach is to sign up with a service that allows you to download all the ringtones you want for a small monthly fee. If you download lots of ringtones, this service pays for itself many times over.

Ringtone advertisements are everywhere these days. This is not surprising, given the fact that cellphones are everywhere these days too. With such a ubiquitous device, people want to personalize their cellphone as best they can. And of course, having a variety of ringtones is the best way to do this. And ringtones are not even the only way to personalize a cellphone.

People can get wallpapers, or images that serve the purpose of background images for the display on their phone. With newer cellphones boasting faster processors, cellphone games have also become a popular addition to many cellphone models. So, cellphones are no longer just about making phonecalls. They are now often used as an expression of the style and personality of the person that owns the cellphone.

Many companies have jumped into the ringtone business hoping to capitalize on this desire for self expression. Even the carriers themselves are now offering ringtones to their subscribers. The carriers and many other companies use a fairly standard business model for delivering these ringtones – the user must pay a fee of between one and three dollars per ringtone in order to purchase and download the ringtone. But some companies seem to offer free ringtones to consumers.

The advertisements tell potential customers to enter cellular phone number and they will be able to download some number of free ringtones. Is this the real deal? Well, yes and no. Look at the fine print in the ad. In virtually all cases, by entering the phone number you are also agreeing to sign up for a ringtone subscription plan at around ten dollars per month. This subscription plan gives you a certain number of credits to spend every month on ringtones and wallpapers. By signing up, you do indeed get some number of extra credits for some extra ringtones. So in some sense these are free ringtones, but you only get the free ones by signing up for a fairly costly monthly service.

So what are the alternatives? There are a few companies that offer software systems that allow you to create your own ringtones from your own set of CDs or MP3 files. A service like this will also let you use your won digital photos to create custom wallpapers for your phone. If you are computer savvy and are willing to spend some time doing this, then this can be a good option.

For people who are not willing to spend time making their own ringtones, there are other services that provide unlimited ringtone downloads for a flat fee. Usually these services are much less expensive than those services that deceptively advertise free ringtones. So it usually pays to research ringtone deals fairly extensively before committing to a purchase.

Marc Ilgen is an expert in cellphone games and ringtones. His website KewlCell.com provides information on a terrific download program for ringtones.

These days, almost all mobile phones have their own unique ringtones. Every individual can use their own customized ringtones for their mobile phones. There are numbers of ringtones that are available for the use of any individuals.

In May 1996, the first commercial with customizable ringtones was released. The mobile phone is integrated with few preset songs. The ringtones come in MIDI format. On the other hand, the first mobile phone where the user can put in original tones rather than preset songs was released in September 1996. Because of this, the use of customized ringtones became popular to many individuals. It became very popular in Japan where it was first released to the market. Companies in Japan even published a mobile ringtone book in July 1998. This allowed users to integrate popular songs into their mobile phone. The book soled over 3.5 million copies.

On the other hand, the production and distribution of the first downloadable mobile ringtones was in Finland in the autumn of 1998. The users can utilize the product to fabricate monophonic ringtones with a mechanism that allows the users to send the ringtones to other users via SMS. Moreover, in November 1998, the same service in Finland was started in Japan.

Because many people are using mobile phones for communication, the service concept quickly spread in many areas in Europe and Asia. In addition, because the service is widely used by many individuals, it became a multi-billion dollar industry. After the success of the customizable monophonic ringtones, the truetones became popular. The service was first started in December 2002. The truetones usually come in audio format such as MP3, AAC, or WMA. Because most of the tones used are from popular pop songs, truetones became popular to many individuals especially the teens.

Because of the success of the ringtone market, different mobile companies use their own format of ringtone. Other mobile phone supports several types of ringtone format. On the other hand, there are mobile phones that can only support one or few format of ringtones.

Overall, the customizable ringtones became very popular to many mobile phone users. It started in Japan in 1996 wherein the tones are in MIDI format. Because of the popularity of the customizable ringtones, it is also distributed in Finland. Moreover, the use of customizable ringtones became popular in almost every country around the world. The ringtone market has become one of the largest industries.

Cool ringtones are a booming business for the music industry, with artists pushing ringtones like never before. The advent of realtones and truetones has opened up the music catalog to include anything and everything fans could want. Now the only limit is one’s imagination.

For instance, for kids, humorous ringtones are usually what fall into the category of “cool ringtones.” Such tones can be from cartoons or movies, while others can be funny messages, such as “John, please pick up your communication device” (with the “communication device” being of course, your snazzy phone). Other funny ringtones may ask questions like, “Can you hear me?” or the Verizon catch phrase, “Can you hear me now?” These funny, hip, cool ringtones are merely a sampling from a collective that has truly grown in size and breadth over the past few years.

Indeed, the ringtones business since 2004 has boomed into a major cottage industry, and with realtones and truetones now, it has expanded even further. Now the synthesized polyphonic tones of a few years ago seem retro! Today, the more common ringtones heard are those with lyrics, taken directly from MP3 sound files. Music editors enable mobile-phone users to snip files down to a section of the song they wish to highlight, such as a chorus or refrain, to make a cool ringtone that’s all their own.

The examples above, with the dialogue being the “ringtone,” that’s where ringtones have gone. Cool ringtones range from synchronized punk to hip-hop to Broadway musical. Whatever you can imagine for your phone, chances are that that ringtone can be found. Many subscription plans allow unlimited downloads per month for a fee. As a result, users can change their ringtones every day if they choose or perhaps for special occasions, such as holidays. Spooky ringtones for Halloween; cheery ringtones for Christmas; cool ringtones year-round.

You can also purchase ringtones one at a time, similar to buying one single track versus an entire album. Mobile phones also come with preloaded ringtones that are simple but effective. If all you want is a signal that a call is incoming, then these should work fine. The historic Nokia tune for example, the default tone for all Nokia phones, has been around for over a decade and is still used by millions. A cool ringtone is really whatever you feel it should be, whether preloaded or transferred.

As for those MP3 sound files to be snipped into perfection, they can be found all over the Internet. For free or a fee, from approved or non-approved sources, the ringtone is everywhere. To transfer a music file from your PC, all that’s needed is a Bluetooth. Once downloaded, the song can then be edited into that cool ringtone, however you wish.

PC transfers can be economical too, as most purchased ringtones cost a few dollars. Compare that to a full song download at a provider like iTunes, which only charges $1 per song. A snippet of a song at double the price? A direct Bluetooth transfer might work better. Finding cost-effective solutions, such as a subscription plan (for multiple changes), and you’re well on your way to getting the most from your phone at the best price.

Christine Sargaeant is a ringtone specialist.

by Barbie Zabel

One of the first and very noticeable features of cell phones is ringtones, which are easily available over the net. However the question lies is, whether they are free or charged? You usually search of websites that let you download ringtones for free, and there are websites that let you do that. But honestly, not all websites allow downloading for free. There are hidden costs charged to them, which you might notice only after you’ve got your phone bill or a certain amount has been deducted from your balance.

Websites usually display a lot of ringtones, some of which are free and some of which are not. The ones that are charged, generally, are a form of royalty that the website has to pay to the artist for the songs. Many websites have three to four pages as a part of their process to get the ringtones. One of those pages might include a long list of the terms and conditions, which, majority of the times, contains the word ’subscription’ and service pricing. So when we unintentionally, ignore these terms and click on “I agree”, the blame of being charged is very conveniently shifted from the ringtone supplier to the customer.

Next is the page which asks us of our mobile number, which we very happily type in, in the excitement of getting our so called ‘FREE’ ringtone, which actually is charged. And then we have no choice but to either pay the money or lodge complain and by the time things get back to square one, the damage has already been caused. So it is always better to read the text displayed on the websites from where you are going to download the ringtones.

Some of the things that you should keep in mind before downloading free ringtones:

Read reviews of the websites offering free ringtones and make a wise choice.

Most of the popular music is copyright protected, any use of the music, such as in free ringtones, requires royalties to be paid to the artist, make sure that the website mention that on their pages.

Do not mention your credit card number to any of the websites, even if they are legitimate sites, it might be risky.

Make sure that the website you visit is free of virus, because if you avoid this little advice, the virus might not only enter your computer hard drive but also your phone, which would happen while transferring the ringtone from the computer to your phone. Now, that would be a two-in-one damage for you.

Apart from downloading ringtones from the websites, there are other legal options too of getting ringtones. You can download ringtones by getting your GPRS connection activated, this way; you can be worry-free about viruses and worms. Another beneficial way would be to transfer ringtones from your friend’s or relative’s cell phone via Bluetooth or infrared. Even tough you can adopt these methods for getting free ringtones; the above mentioned list of factors to be kept in mind should not be avoided.

To find out more and download polyphonic ringtones please visit free cell phone ringtones website

Ringtones originally were a take-what-you-get feature associated with the purchase of a new cell phone. Currently, phones come with an assortment of built-in ring tones, with capabilities to store countless more.

Cell phones have become an extension of our individual persona, and as such are a billboard of self expression. Just as someone might decorate their home for individual national holidays, so will they upload ringtones appropriate for certain times of the year. Accordingly, cell phone providers offer music fitting for a particular holiday on their websites.
With popular services such as the iTunes online store, any Top 40 pop song can become a personal ringtone for $1.98. In addition, when a song is downloaded from iTunes to be used as a ringtone, it can be also be stored on a PC as an mp3, eliminating the need to pay for the song twice.

Cell phone providers also occasionally offer ringtones based on the demographic of the cell phone network area. A cell phone company in the southern U.S. such as Southernlinc might offer songs popular for that region. One such song, (featured by Southernlinc) is ‘A Country Boy Can Survive’ by Hank Williams. With Southernlinc songs are $1.49/per download unless on sale. Most songs downloaded for use as a ringtone typically cost $.99/per song and up. Sprint PCS has a wide ranging variety of songs organized in a vast catalog, and are available to purchase for $2.50/per song.

Another useful feature offered by several websites are programs with the ability to assist you in composing an original score for your phone. In addition, with the current integration of technology between prime time T.V. shows and corporate television websites online gives cell phone users the ability to download the theme song from a particularly well loved show.

Many cell phone ringtones are available to download for free from various commercial and independently owned websites. Every cell phone provider offers a link to download ringtones on the providers’ website. Some cell phone companies contract with specific artists to feature current albums or popular newly released songs. For example, Verizon Wireless currently features artists such as PHISH, Led Zeppelin, and Belinda Carlisle.

T Mobile has several options to purchase for use as a ringtones listed in four categories: MegaTones, HiFi Ringers, CallerTunes, and Voices & Sounds. MegaTones offer variations of current favorite songs arranged with instruments while HiFi Ringers feature snippets of songs by popular artists. CallerTunes and Voices & Sounds offer options offering songs “of your choice”, or “sound effects, celebrity voices, and more.”

AT&T hosts a Media Mall on its website offering a plethora of musical ringtone options, featuring mostly popular Top 40 songs under the Music Tones option. Under the voice tones option one can choose “voice tones” with celebrities such as Erik Estrada telling you to pick up the phone. “Holiday Fun” is another tab under the Music Tones tab, offering Independence Day and Christmas songs. Under “Celebrity Ringers”, choosing a clip is merely a decision between which South Park and Larry the Cable Guy episode has your favorite sound clip. There are also several unique sound effects to choose from, such as a door creaking open and a crowd cheering. Each musical song chosen for purchase as a ringtone through AT&T costs $2.49/per song, while voice tones, sound effects, and polyphonic sounds cost $1.99/each.

Cricket offers a service called “Ringback Tones”, which offers a catalog brimming with options. Music can be bought for a ringtone at an average price of $1.99/per song, with an expiration date of six months, which is a stand alone feature of Cricket. The catalog options with Cricket however, are more varied than competing cell phone companies; the catalog boasts 14 categories alone from which to choose your ringtone. Among the 14 are: “What’s Hot”, “Top 10”, “Urban”, “Country”, “Comedy”. “Movies/TV”, and “Sports”.

The options for cell phone ringtones are endless. Songs can easily be purchased through the individual cell phone retailer or on any number of websites on the Internet. Your ringtone can represent your personality playing your favorite hit song every time the phone “rings”, or your favorite the time of year through seasonal song. Whichever you choose, your options are as multi-faceted as you.
